Dating/Relationships
Why doesn’t he/she want to spend time with me?
Why does he/she get close to me and then pull away?
Why am I so confused about our relationship and where it’s going (or not going)?
Dating and romantic relationships can bring about a whirlwind of emotions, ranging anywhere from euphoria and elation to heartbreak and despair. Every relationship goes through stages. It is within these stages of attraction, connection, curiosity, romance, and reality that we not only learn a great deal about our partners but also all about ourselves. Going through these stages can teach us so much about personal and relational boundaries, limitations, and levels of tolerance.
There are times though when the relationship is tested and becomes stagnate. Needs aren’t being met, trust issues arise, and the once passionate bedroom that used to be your much anticipated escape, becomes desolate and unfeeling. Issues like these rarely resolve themselves and the longer they are just swept under the rug, the more compounding the issues become. The end result is usually a massive blow up, in which most couples become confused as to what they are actually fighting about.
I call this the trash can argument, because to me it resembles dumping a trash can out and sifting through all of the small, seemingly insignificant things to get to the real problem at hand. For example, couples who fight about sex are often not really fighting about sex. What they are fighting about, are all of the issues that have been swept under the rug and are now causing a massive divide in the bedroom. Sex issues are rarely about sex, they go much deeper and have to be dealt with if the couple desires to make the relationship work.
Having been in this same situation myself, I can relate to your feelings of depression, confusion, anger, and resentment…just to name a few. If both parties are committed though, these issues can be worked through over time. As your relational life coach, I will work with you to help identify the real issues affecting your relationship, and together we will get to the bottom them.
